Rushey Green Gardens

At Rushey Green, our food production programme (RGSAFPP) focuses on the use of organic food production as a solution to the immediate concerns regarding healthy eating solutions, overall obesity, cooking skills and mental wellbeing (sensory) of students, staff and the wider community.

We believe that a key part of this programme is developing skills that will impact on people’s coping skills and well-being. In addition, it is important that students be given an opportunity to maintain sustainability and self sufficiency through this programme to develop life long skills.

The Rushey Green School  Agricultural Food Training Programme will provide instructional delivery in its areas of expertise: Agricultural food production and cooking classes will be conducted for instructors with emphasis on development of key areas of focus such as leadership in school food production, cooking skills, problem solving, self empowerment , sustainability and healthy eating.

 Our  School vegetable garden:

Our food production programme teaches our kids about soil, nutrition and the life cycles of plants and the creatures attached to the garden. We raise the children's awareness of seasonal nature and a variety of foods. Rushey green growing food production is part of our school development plan and our stakeholders include staff, pupils, parents and local residents being involved.

Future Learning:

Frequent, continuous and progressive learning outside the classroom is embedded throughout the Agricultural Science curriculum. Through various workshops, trips and interactions with experts and local charities, children have the understanding that science has changed our lives and that it is vital to the world’s future prosperity. Coming on board are: Friday after school and Saturday Clubs which will allow all stakeholders to be active participants in our bid for sustainability of the planets through foundational learning.

Here is a short video of the pupils and staff preparing the land, and making it ready for composting and seeding

Sabina Nessa Memorial

The garden will offer children and the community a safe outdoor space to learn about nature, growing produce and cooking food - topics that Sabina was passionate about.

The school has plenty of outdoor space but gardening is expensive! They need to raise funds for basics like topsoil and raised beds, seeds, fruit trees, cooking equipment and educational resources.

As well as a place to learn, their goal is to create a lasting and positive legacy for a talented, caring teacher who made a huge impact on the school and children’s lives.
